I’ve been driving to work along the A3 for a couple of years now, and in whichever direction I’m travelling, I always get to pause for a 5, 10 or 45 minute foot break in and around Hindhead.
Back in April this year, the Highways Agency erected some signs “Work starts here for 18 months” and got on and dug up the central reservation, whilst also shrinking the driveable part of the road with lines and lines of pretty-to-look-at cones. Luckily it hasn’t made too much of a difference to my journey times.
A few weeks ago, however, the Higways Agency erected a new sign:
So much did I laugh. The funniest thing for me is how they’ve obviously made that “opening summer 2011″ bit a plug-n-play component - so that they can swap it over for a new one when they inevitably realise there was a ‘deadline-typo’ in 2011!
Still, it should be good - the underpass looks pretty impressive and has the potential to reduce my journey time by 10 or 15 minutes, which is awesome… shame it’s gonna take 4 years!
